- Project Duration : 4 years
- Target Location : Central Region - Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono,
Project Goal:
To empower the women and equip them with skills and tools to become self-reliant
Main Objective
To harness the power of youths, women at large to combat, poverty, ignorance, unemployment, gender based violence and the evil of addiction with an ultimate aim of crime prevention and development.
Description
Rural and Urban poor women are generally treated as second-class citizens and seen as someone to look after the home and bear children. The project is characterized with a typical rural and urban setting with most of the women folk involved in agriculture or unemployed. The women and girls of these areas are mostly involved in household chores, prostitution, forgery, witchcraft, smoking, robbery, drug abuse etc. Those with families have no say, some of their husbands treat them like maids, sex machines and a thing to play around with, majority never received higher education and entirely dependent on their male counterparts and have to bear the brunt of most of the evils like domestic violence etc.
Their low levels of education has led to low confidence in them to face the world. In view of the financial constraints that they face, this skill-building project strives to empower the women and equip them with skills and tools to become self-reliant. It is observed that, if skills are imparted to them, it will give them more avenues to earn their living. The project also helps them to raise their voice against the ill treatment accorded to them within the family or outside. Hence, vocational training program (stitching, embroidery, Baking, Soap making, Tailoring and jewelry making) enables the rural and urban poor women and girls to learn and enhance their skills, enhancing their confidence level and become potential entrepreneurs.
